What is Accelerated Reader?
Not really sure what AR is?
AR (Accelerated Reader) is a web-enabled software program from Renaissance Learning that helps teachers motivate, monitor, and manage your child’s independent reading practice. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions [email protected].
AR is used to motivate students to read. AR books are worth points decided by Renaissance Place and usually determined by the length of the book. By reading books, students accumulate points and can win a small prize each time they enter a Point Club. The bulletin board in the front hall of the school shows which students are in each point club.
Picture books and most non-fiction books are worth 0.5 points and therefore it is difficult for all students to achieve high points. Each child has been placed on an AR team so that they work together with their teammates to compete against other teams. This year’s theme is “Survivor” and you can see how your child’s team is progressing on the bulletin board in the front hall.
